Blu Ray Releases for 11/11 Previewed Briefly By Blue

* 3: The Dale Earnhardt Story (ESPN) - Christ, NASCAR. I realize NASCAR racing isn't just driving around in a circle for 5 hours(oh wait, actually it is) that it requires intense focus and concentration(sort of like the SATs) but who cares. It's boring either way. All you really need is to see the end anyway, unless there's a crash. But oh well. Anyway if you're into NASCAR you probably already saw this movie, so fuck you.

* Band of Brothers (HBO) - The most overrated Non-Sopranos show ever broadcast on HBO. See what I did there? I said it was overrated which is a stealth way of criticizing without actually making a real criticism of the show. Because being overrated is considered a fairly bad thing, but it's not the show's fault, it's the reaction of others to it. I'm not sure I really have a point. Anyway, it's a good show. I'm not as into WW2 as everyone else who ever lived so it's not my favorite HBO series but I thought it was well made. Looking forward to the Pacific theater sequel.

* Black Christmas (1974) (Koch Distributing) - Oh yeah. This is the first slasher movie ever! Inspired Halloween, Friday the 13th, etc! Except for any Giallo movie ever. Which was a genre introduced in Italy in the mid-60s. But hey! This one's in English, so it's the grandfather of the genre! Snark aside this is a good movie, and important.

* Chuck: The Complete First Season (Warner) - Every episode of this show that I've seen is exactly the same. Chuck and the hot agent chick infiltrate some swanky party, Chuck spots a spy, the hot agent chick intercepts the spy, but then it turns out the REAL spy is another hot chick that seduces Chuck, and hot agent chick has to save him from getting laid. Interspersed with obvious Best Buy humor stolen from The Forty Year Old Virgin.

* Dragon Ball Z - Return of the Cooler/Cooler's Revenge (FUNimation)- Never understood the appeal of this show, to me it's always seemed like a cross between Pokemon and Fist of the North Star, without the gore of the latter.

* Firefly (Fox) - Ah we were talking about 'overrated' as a critical remark and here we get served up Firefly, the most overrated tv series by Joss Whedon(and that's saying something). Firefly an entertaining show and well made, but imo the Western elements are far too surface level, and takes me out of it.

* Harry Potter Years 1-5 (Giftset) (Warner) - All previously released, this is a holidays-timed dvd package.

* Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Universal) - I enjoyed this movie a bit more than the original, which I liked. Really though neither of them get even a hint of the tone of the comics. The comics are minor classics, the movies are just a few steps above a Ninja Turtles movie.

* Hellboy II: The Golden Army (3-Disc Collector's Edition) (Universal) - Read above.

* JFK (Warner) - The one movie I'm certain to get of this list, this movie is actually UNDERRATED as far as I'm concerned. It's a modern classic, and who cares if it's true because it is just too good.

* Katt Williams: It's Pimpin' Pimpin' (Vivendi Visual) - Stand up comedy doesn't need to be in high def.

* Live From Abbey Road: Best Of Season One (BCI) - TV show I never heard of, apparantly. Beatles-related?

* The Police: Certifiable - Live in Buenos Aires (Universal Music Group) - Sting sucks outside of Dune and Baron Munchausen, and the Police have one decent song that I don't even remember the title.

* Soundstage: Sheryl Crow - Live (Koch Distributing) - Sheryl Crow was hot in a MILFy way 15 years ago. Now she's just old.

* Soundstage: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (Koch) - Good band but pass.

* Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Warner) - Apparantly this is awful, I wish FNORD would post more episodes of the tv series on the blog though.

* The Story of 'O' (Koch Distributing) - 70s soft core euro porn.

* Sukiyaki Western: Django (First Look) - Takashi Miike does a Western with Japanese actors. Miike's been off his game the past couple of years so I'll wait for reviews.

* Supernatural: The Complete Third Season (Warner) - Who watches this series? Is it any good?

* Tenacious D: The Complete Masterworks 2 (Sony Music) - Kyle Gass is not funny. He's a drag on Jack Black, who is funny sometimes but not consistently.

* This Christmas (Sony) - Holdover from last week, check that post out for more info(haha there's no actual info in the other post, fuck this movie)
